A Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) delegation, headed by Ango-Shehu Mohammed, has demanded immediate enhancements to essential infrastructure at Gombe Airport to ensure readiness for the 2026 Hajj airlifts.
During a courtesy visit to Gombe State’s Secretary to the Government, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, Ango-Shehu praised Governor Muhammadu Yahaya’s administration for advancing aviation safety at the airport.
Ango-Shehu however, highlighted urgent needs for sustained investment in aviation lighting systems, high-capacity firefighting vehicles, and advanced navigational aids to enable precise aircraft operations. “These upgrades are essential for optimal airport performance, particularly with the approaching 2026 Hajj pilgrimage,” Mohammed emphasized.
Njodi responded by noting a prior slowdown in state interventions due to anticipated federal takeover of the airport. He revealed a recent N600 million contract award for fencing and renovations, and pledged that the government would review the NCAA’s full report and address the gaps to prioritize user safety.
