President Bola Tinubu has sacked Saidu Mohammed as Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), citing public interest. The President went further to nominate Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, a veteran executive with 25+ years in energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure, plus degrees from Bayero University and Harvard Business School, as replacement—pending Senate approval.
This was announced by the presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, as it aligns with the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 to boost regulatory efficiency under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Until confirmation, NMDPRA’s most senior official will act as head. The Presidency praised Mohammed’s service and reaffirmed dedication to strong leadership for energy security and economic growth.
