The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration & Control (NAFDAC) has rolled out an upgraded Med Safety App to strengthen reporting of substandard, falsified medical products and adverse drug reactions across Nigeria. The refurbished platform (available on Android, iOS, web and desktop) features a more user-friendly interface, simplified reporting steps, better data management and faster feedback.
Users can upload photos and product details to support investigations and report suspicious signs such as altered expiry dates, odd packaging, questionable registration numbers, poor product quality and unexpected treatment failures. It also accepts reports of adverse reactions like allergies and other harmful side effects.
NAFDAC says the app will help regulators detect and investigate unsafe products sooner, remove them from circulation, and inform evidence-based decisions and public alerts. NAFDAC has also called on health professionals, pharmacists, nurses, community health workers, patients and caregivers to download and use the app, and urged consumers to buy medicines only from authorized, reputable sources. Since the re-launch, reporting has risen and the agency described the response as encouraging.
