National Agency for Food and Drug Administration & Control (NAFDAC) says it has uncovered widespread violations of the Federal Government’s ban on alcoholic beverages sold in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml. According to the agency, some manufacturers have continued production despite the ban, moved operations to unregistered locations, and in some cases assaulted enforcement officers during nationwide raids.

Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye said enforcement teams found evidence of ongoing illegal production in Lagos, Ogun and other states, even after the government’s grace period had expired. She said the violations were deliberate, noting that officers recovered banned 100ml PET bottles and sachet packaging materials dated as recently as July 23, 2026, showing that production was still ongoing after the ban became fully enforceable.

Adeyeye also said some manufacturers tried to hide from regulators by relocating machinery to unregistered premises and removing signboards from their facilities. She warned that NAFDAC would keep enforcing the ban, shut down violating factories, seize banned products and destroy them, while also investigating and prosecuting anyone who attacked its officers.
