The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved five new undergraduate health programs for Wellspring University, Benin City, following a successful resource verification visit by a commission panel. The cleared programs, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS); BSc Human Anatomy; BSc Human Physiology; Bachelor of Health Information Management (BHIM); and Bachelor of Community Health Science, are set to begin in the 2026/2027 academic session.
The NUC’s endorsement signals confidence in Wellspring’s academic staffing, laboratory and clinical facilities, library resources, curriculum, governance and financial base which are key areas assessed during resource verification particularly for regulated fields like medicine. With MBBS now included, Wellspring joins other private Nigerian universities authorized to train medical doctors. The expanded offerings in anatomy, physiology, health information management and community health will strengthen the university’s allied-health and public-health training capacity.
Wellspring’s management has said that the NUC approval underpins its strategic expansion in health sciences and commitment to academic excellence, and will help the university produce competent healthcare professionals to improve health service delivery and socio-economic development. Prospective applicants are advised to contact the university’s Admissions Office or official channels for entry requirements and application details for the 2026/2027 session.
