The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) have cordoned off the offices of 2 real estate firms in Abuja for failing to comply with directives issued after consumer complaints. Deputy Director Marvin Nadah said the enforcement, carried out under the FCCPC Act (including Section 150(4) and Section 154), is part of the commission’s drive to curb exploitative practices in the property sector.
The complaints involved buyers who either did not receive paid-for properties or were owed refunds which the commission had ordered but were not given. Initial compliance notices were issued in June 2025 and the commission engaged the companies several times, but the firms did not act, prompting the sealing of their premises. Reopening of the real estate firms’ offices will depend on their meeting the commission’s directives as prosecution remains a possible next step. Nadah advised consumers to carefully review property contracts and seek professional guidance when transacting.
