The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has reaffirmed the insurance market that no licensed firm will crumble or fold ahead of the July 31, 2026, recapitalization deadline.

Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Omosehin stated this while emphasizing that regulators have pinpointed vulnerable operators and are aiding them via restructuring, mergers, or acquisitions to safeguard policyholders and avert sector-wide instability. Speaking through Deputy Commissioner Ekerete Ola Gam-Ikon at the Nigerian Insurers Association’s 2026 awards in Lagos, Omosehin emphasized: “No insurance company will be allowed to fail—we’re supporting weaker players for seamless continuity.”

NIA Chairman Kunle Ahmed highlighted the industry’s urgent push to comply, with firms pursuing varied strategies to hit new capital requirements. Stakeholders caution that while NAICOM’s intervention averts short-term collapses, operators must urgently bolster finances.

NAICOM’s capital checks which is due by June 2026, will finalize license retentions.
