Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has called on Nigerian teachers to acquire digital skills in order to boost learning outcomes and stay relevant for tech-savvy students, while enhancing their global edge.
Registrar Dr. Ronke Soyombo shared this at an Abuja workshop hosted by 21st Century Teachers, TRCN, and backed by the office of the Speaker of House of Representatives.
Dr. Ronke highlighted that today’s digital-native learners demand tech-infused, student-focused methods over outdated teacher-led ones, fostering collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
She further emphasized ongoing teacher training for top-tier education and competitive graduates, noting TRCN’s role in cross-sector educator partnerships and validating numerous lesson plans. She endorsed cautious AI use for planning—easing workloads but avoiding over-reliance—and pushed for broader stakeholder backing to roll out digital programs nationwide. Investing in teachers’ growth is key to lasting education reforms and national progress, she added.
