The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration & Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning about unregistered and counterfeit Colgate toothpaste circulating in Kaduna State, Nigeria, after a complaint prompted an investigation by its Post-Marketing Surveillance team.
Key Findings
Inspectors from the agency visited a retail shop and found 2 counterfeit products: Colgate ActiveGel 100g and Colgate Herbal 100g (also labeled as Colgate Crema Dental Herbal 100g). The 2 products lacked NAFDAC registration numbers, batch numbers, and met no quality standards. They claim manufacture by Guangzhou YECAI Oral Cleaning Products Co., Ltd. (China), with dates from August 2025 to August 2029. The shop owner bought them from a door-to-door seller but had no proof. NAFDAC removed the items from sale, citing health risks.
