The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is ramping up power sector reforms through closer regulatory ties with the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) and Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OYSERC).
This effort centered on distinct courtesy calls by the state commissions to NERC’s Head office in Abuja, aiming to bolster federal-state partnerships in Nigeria’s changing electricity landscape.
In talks with KSERC, the Kogi team—headed by the Chairman, Ibrahim Abdulwaris, updated NERC on achievements since its launch. Abdulwaris also highlighted key advances in creating the structures and rules for an effective state-level electricity market in just one year. He further explained that KSERC focused on staff training, crafting guidelines, and streamlining steps to launch market operations in the state.
NERC’s Stakeholder Management Commissioner, Aisha Mahmud, praised KSERC’s forward-thinking approach to building a solid regulatory base. She underscored the need for ongoing federal-state teamwork to align policies, maintain uniform standards, and make the best use of energy assets in their areas.
