At Global Money Week 2026 in Abuja, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) emphasized the role of financial literacy in empowering citizens and driving Nigeria’s economic progress.
Dr. Aisha Isa-Olatinwo, CBN’s Director of Consumer Protection and Financial Inclusion, while speaking to students from local schools—including Doveland International, Living Fountain International, Government Day Secondary School Wuse, and Government Science College Maitama— stated that informed financial choices are vital life skills. She declared financial literacy “essential” amid evolving economies, with this year’s theme “Smart Money Talks” promoting candid money discussions to dispel myths and build confidence.
Isa-Olatinwo highlighted the apex bank’s efforts like the Bank Consumer Education Series and “Sabi Money” e-learning platform, aimed mainly at youth education & financial literacy. She pledged broader outreach beyond schools and urged viewing money as an investment tool, not just for spending, while encouraging peer-to-peer knowledge sharing for lasting impact.
Mrs. Temilade Akinfadeyi, Head of Financial Inclusion, described the literacy fair as a hands-on arena for practical lessons in saving, spending wisely, and exploring youth-tailored financial products. She stressed open dialogues as key to smarter choices and secure futures.
