The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has strengthened its partnership with the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) to boost safety oversight, regulatory adherence, and technical standards across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
This commitment was upheld during a strategic courtesy visit to NERC’s leadership in Abuja by NEMSA’s Managing Director/CEO and Chief Electrical Inspector, Engr. Olusegun M. Adesayo.
A statement from NERC’s Head of Public Affairs, Ama Umoren, highlighted that the focus of the discussions centered on enhanced cooperation in key areas: electrical safety enforcement, technical inspections, installation certifications, metering compliance, infrastructure monitoring, and unified regulatory supervision over generation, transmission, distribution, and consumer segments.
Engr. Adesayo underscored NEMSA’s inspection and certification role as vital to complementing NERC’s mandate for a safe, reliable power supply. He called for joint data management, incident probes, compliance checks, and information sharing to tackle accidents, subpar installations, equipment issues, and regulatory lapses—aligning with global standards.
NERC Chairman, Dr. Oseni, welcomed the push, pledging close collaboration amid sector reforms like decentralizing regulation under the Electricity Act. He emphasized inter-agency coordination to uphold nationwide technical uniformity and elevate safety, efficiency, and performance.
