Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), has unveiled Blueprint 2.0, a 13-chapter policy framework designed to reform and reposition Nigeria’s university system for improved quality, relevance and global competitiveness.

Presented by the Policy Development and Advisory Committee (PDAC) in Abuja, the blueprint outlines strategies for strengthening governance, quality assurance, funding, infrastructure, staffing, research, innovation, ICT integration, gender equity, graduate employability and institutional sustainability.

Ribadu described the document as a major achievement of his administration and said an implementation committee would be established to oversee its execution and monitor its impact. He added that the blueprint would be published and widely circulated to encourage stakeholder participation, ownership and periodic review.

PDAC Chairman, Emeritus Professor Olufemi Bamiro, said the committee also recommended regular needs assessments for public universities, improved NUC funding, the creation of a Nigerian Labour Market Observatory, clearer TETFund priorities, stronger research support, university internationalization and enhanced governance in federal universities.

The committee urged government, universities, development partners and other stakeholders to work together to translate the blueprint’s recommendations into practical and sustainable reforms across the Nigerian University System.
