The National Universities Commission (NUC) has expressed confidence in the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe (FUHST), Zamfara State, after carrying out a resource verification exercise before the start of the university’s academic programs. Conducted last Thursday, the inspection, led by the NUC’s Deputy Director, Alhaji Mohammed Adamu, evaluated the university’s compliance with regulatory requirements, checking staffing, teaching facilities, laboratories, library and e-library resources, infrastructure, and other essential academic materials.
The verification covered several proposed programs, including MBBS, BDS, Pharm.D, Occupational Therapy, Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence, and other health-related courses. Professor Muhammad Manga, who headed the MBBS and Dentistry assessment, praised the university’s investments in academic resources. Dr. Umar Farouk Abubakar, on the Pharmacy team, commended the curriculum’s alignment with the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), called the learning resources impressive, and pledged ongoing support from the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria.
FUHST’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, thanked the verification team for their professional review and said the university would act swiftly on the recommendations to address any gaps.
In a related development, Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Gadau, has received NUC approval for 12 new programs to begin in the 2026/2027 academic session, the university’s Public Relations Officer Auwal Hassan announced. An NUC letter dated 15 June 2026 confirmed the decision after a resource assessment of SAZU’s academic staff, facilities, laboratories, and library.
The newly approved undergraduate programs are: B.A. (Ed.) Arabic, B.A. (Ed.) Hausa, B.A. (Ed.) Islamic Studies, B.A. Sharia, B.Sc. Social Work, B.Sc. (Ed.) Agricultural Science, B.Sc. (Ed.) Human Kinetics, and B.Sc. (Ed.) Health Education. Postgraduate additions include: M.Ed. Educational Management, Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Law (PGD, LL.M., and Ph.D.), and Sociology (PGD, M.Sc., and Ph.D.).
Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Fatimah Tahir said the NUC’s approval validates the university’s growth and compliance with regulatory standards, and fits SAZU’s strategic goal of expanding access to quality higher education and producing globally competitive graduates. She thanked the NUC, Governor and Visitor Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for ongoing financial and infrastructural support, and praised the university’s governing council, senate, management, and staff for their role in the successful assessment. Prof. Tahir reassured parents and prospective students that SAZU will allocate the necessary human and material resources to ensure high quality assurance for the new programs.
