The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval to Margaret Lawrence University (MLU), located in Galilee, Delta State to commence undergraduate engineering programs at its main campus from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval was communicated in a letter to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Izevbigie, following a resource assessment conducted by NUC experts to verify that the university possesses the necessary personnel, facilities, and equipment required to run the programs.
The newly approved courses are:
- B.Eng. Electrical and Electronics Engineering
- B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering
- B.Eng. Computer Engineering
- B.Eng. Civil Engineering
According to the NUC, the programs are approved for full-time study only. Any plans to introduce part-time versions must receive separate approval from the commission. The university was also advised to maintain adequate human and material resources to ensure the quality and sustainability of the programs.
MLU described the approval as a significant milestone in its pursuit of academic excellence and innovation. The institution stated that the engineering programs will be delivered through a modern, industry-focused curriculum designed in partnership with engineering professionals and aligned with both national and international standards.
The university expects the new faculty to produce competent graduates capable of driving technological advancement, solving real-world problems, and contributing to Nigeria’s economic development.
In addition, MLU has broadened its academic offerings at its Abuja campus through its Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, which now offers programmes in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Mass Communication, International Relations, Public Administration, Sociology, Economics, and Taxation.
