The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the delivering non-sensitive election materials for the June 20 Ekiti gubernatorial election. Resident Electoral Commissioner Bunmi Omoseyindemi said this at a policy dialogue in Ado-Ekiti; that the commission has finished major preparations, inspected Registration Area Centres across the state, engaged political parties, and trained security personnel to ensure a credible election.
He added that the movement of sensitive materials to RACs will be tracked to enhance transparency and accountability. Omoseyindemi emphasized the important roles of media and political parties in promoting peaceful participation, countering misinformation, and building public trust, and reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to a peaceful, inclusive and transparent poll through stakeholder collaboration.
Ibrahim Sani, Acting Director-General of The Electoral Institute, called media and political parties essential pillars of democracy and cautioned against misinformation, hate speech, vote-buying, and intimidation. He urged parties to adopt internal democracy and focus on issues, and asked the media to maintain professionalism and ethical standards in election reporting.
