The issuance of petrol import licenses by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has resulted in a 9% increase in fuel imports in July.
According to the NMDPRA factsheet released on Monday, daily petrol imports rose to 19.7 million liters in July, up from 18.1 million liters in June.
The report also revealed that Dangote Refinery’s daily supply of Premium Motor Spirit to the domestic market fell by 21%, declining from 32.5 million liters in June to 25.8 million liters in July.
The reduction occurred alongside a 25% drop in the country’s daily petrol consumption, which fell from 47.4 million liters to 35.7 million liters during the period.
Similarly, the refinery’s Automotive Gas Oil supply decreased by 3% from 16.2 million liters per day in June to 15.7 million liters per day in July. Meanwhile, diesel imports reached 7.9 million liters per day in July, compared with no imports recorded in the previous month.
In June, the NMDPRA had granted import licenses to several marketers, including AA Rano and AYM Shafa, to bring in petrol and diesel during the third quarter of 2026.
