The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has broadened its market monitoring and testing efforts to cover electrical and electronic items, cables, and various building materials, addressing rising safety issues such as building collapses.
Mrs. Boladale Adeyinka, Director of Surveillance and Investigations, noted that the commission regularly finds substandard and hazardous goods in circulation. She stressed that those products endangering consumers must be immediately pulled or recalled, with direct notifications to those impacted. These steps, she added, are mandatory under law—not discretionary—and non-compliance will trigger severe penalties.
The FCCPC is partnering with fellow sector regulators to seal loopholes permitting unsafe items to enter the market. Adeyinka reiterated the agency’s dedication to upholding standards and safeguarding consumers via enhanced supervision.
She also encouraged the public to remain vigilant, reporting any dubious or dangerous products through the commission’s hotline or online portal, as citizen awareness is vital for saving lives and elevating market quality.
