Nigeria’s National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) have closed down a quarry run by Dai Jin Jia Investment Limited in the Abuja Municipal Area Council due to numerous public outcries about unchecked blasting.

The shutdown followed residents’ reports of the firm’s ongoing, unregulated activities that breached national environmental safeguards.

NESREA inspectors identified several violations during their probe, such as the lack of necessary permits and approvals for the company’s blasting operations.

The agency also claimed the blasts damaged nearby buildings and contributed to a child’s fatal incident, amplifying worries about resident safety. Despite initial resistance from security forces, NESREA team members sealed the site under mounting community demands for environmental and public protection.
