The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is intensifying efforts to strengthen aviation safety, security and human capacity under Director-General Capt. Chris Najomo through closer collaboration with aircraft maintenance professionals, enhanced security oversight and expanded staff welfare. At a meeting in Abuja with the Society of Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers of Nigeria (SLAMEN), Najomo discussed deepening cooperation with licensed engineers on issues affecting the sustainability of Nigeria’s aircraft maintenance sector and the wider industry, urging SLAMEN to scale up training, knowledge sharing, mentorship and the promotion of a strong safety culture.
SLAMEN presented him with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his contributions. Beyond regulatory engagements, Najomo supported more than 20 members of the NCAA Muslim Ummah and other beneficiaries via an empowerment program, providing security staff, cleaners, selected individuals and families of deceased beneficiaries with items such as sewing machines, deep freezers, barbing tools, POS machines and laptops to encourage self-employment and improve livelihoods, while calling on the Muslim community to keep praying for the safety and progress of the NCAA and the aviation sector. Additionally, the NCAA’s Directorate of Aviation Security Regulations (DAVSEC) held its 2026 Aviation Security Strategic Meeting in Abuja, where management and technical staff spent four days reviewing security oversight activities, the implementation of ICAO USAP-CMA corrective action plans, departmental performance and strategies to sharpen regulatory impact.
Director of Aviation Security Regulation, Dr. Bernard Omogo, said the forum helps track progress, address emerging threats and align oversight with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices, featuring presentations on Quality Management Systems, USAP-CMA updates, unit reports, enforcement and regional operations, as well as practical exercises to refine oversight tools, audit and inspection processes, guidance materials and proposed revisions to Nigeria’s national aviation security documents.
