The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have reiterated its dedication to bolstering port security in Nigeria to meet global benchmarks, with ongoing technical assistance from the US Coast Guard (USCG) to enhance adherence to the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
USCG’s Chief of International Port Security Operations, Bryan Ullmer, led a five-day evaluation of Lagos port sites—including Rano, PTML, Five Star Logistics Terminal, Standard Flour Mill, and NNPC Jetty—praising Nigeria’s advancements since the PICOMSS partnership era. He highlighted substantial gains in compliance while pledging continued collaboration for full ISPS alignment.
NIMASA’s Director General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, echoed this commitment, vowing to close remaining gaps under the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy’s oversight. He noted that full compliance would elevate Nigeria’s maritime standing, eliminate entry conditions on its-bound ships, and spur trade and investment.
