The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) have endorsed F-500 Encapsulator, a water-based fire-suppression agent, for use in Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum operations. Announced in a April 2, 2026 public notice, the decision followed rigorous evaluations under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 and Midstream and Downstream Safety Regulations 2023, confirming the product’s technical specs, safety data, eco-toxicity results, and effectiveness in suppressing hydrocarbon fires while meeting environmental standards.
This approval advances industrial safety in a sector prone to fires, explosions, and accidents at depots, tank farms, and gas plants. F-500 works by cooling flames and encapsulating fuels to prevent re-ignition, aligning with global trends for efficient, eco-friendly solutions. Analysts expect better emergency responses in high-risk areas like storage terminals.
NMDPRA stresses strict compliance with regulations, including staff training and safety protocols, as part of its mandate to enhance operational safety, environmental protection, and efficiency in petroleum handling.
