The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reiterated its dedication to boosting sustainability in Nigeria’s telecom sector via policies promoting renewable energy, efficient infrastructure, and proper e-waste handling. This was emphasized in a keynote at the Green Conference, delivered on behalf of Executive Vice Chairman Dr. Aminu Maida by Projects Head Mr. Shuaibu Swade.
NCC positions telecom as a vital link between digital connectivity and environmental care, serving as the digital economy’s foundation while embracing eco-responsibility. The regulator points to opportunities in cutting carbon emissions through expanding digital networks, with operators shifting to energy-saving tech and solar-powered base stations.
Key efforts include infrastructure sharing, renewable solutions for towers, better e-waste management, and tougher ESG reporting for transparency. Stakeholders note that green networks cut costs, boost resilience, and reach remote areas. NCC also stresses how digital tools—like remote work and smart services—slash emissions by curbing travel.
