The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has secured a $250 million commitment from Nigeria’s pension industry for infrastructure investment over the next decade, with $200 million from pension fund operators and $50 million sought from development finance institutions.

PenCom Director-General Omolola Oloworaran announced the plan at the commission’s 2026 media conference in Lagos, noting that details of specific projects would be released in the first half of 2027 and that current infrastructure investments of about N420 billion could rise toward N1 trillion.

Oloworaran also reported that monthly pension payments have increased to N14.83 billion from N12.15 billion, benefiting more than 241,000 retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme. She highlighted that, for the first time in 21 years, pensions for 2,116 retirees under the defunct Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) were reviewed, resulting in an average increase of 1,173%, with monthly payments rising from N12.6 million to N159.95 million and N8.7 billion paid in arrears.
