The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) have renewed their pledge to enhance collaboration in advancing Nigeria’s automotive sector and energy transition efforts.
The renewed commitment came after a recent courtesy call by a NADDC delegation to NMDPRA’s headquarters in Abuja.
Led by NADDC’s Director-General, Oluwemimo Osanipin, the group was welcomed by NMDPRA’s Chief Executive, Saidu Mohammed. The talks centered on pinpointing collaboration opportunities that support national goals in industrial growth, sustainable transport, and the shift toward cleaner energy.
Osanipin underscored NADDC’s oversight in upholding safety and quality for converting petrol vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). He explained that the council partners with the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) to approve conversion kits and certify workshops with proper equipment and skilled engineers for secure conversions.
He further pointed out that the CNG initiative’s effectiveness hinges on widespread gas availability and access, noting that tighter ties with NMDPRA would ensure reliable supply for the growing rollout of conversion facilities across Nigeria. In reply, Mohammed highlighted the value of ongoing partnership between the agencies and confirmed NMDPRA’s eagerness to expand cooperation with NADDC for mutual gains and wider economic progress.
